East Cavan Youth Day 2002
Crosserlough, Co. Cavan

It was decided at an East Cavan Regional meeting that something had to be done in the area to promote the Pioneers in the youth in our region. Shane Kitson was asked to visit all National Schools in the East Cavan Region to speak about the PTAA. The aim of these visits was to inform the pupils about the PTAA and it's activities, and to introduce a young pioneer member, Shane.

After every visit, each student was given a card to sign if they were interested in joining the PTAA. When they had discussed this with their parents, all interested students brought their cards back to the school, where they were cards were collected.

As a direct consequence of this initiative 200 plus new juvenile members joined the pioneers within the East Cavan Region.

In order to celebrate the success of this initiative and to welcome these new members the region held a celebratory function in Crosserlough Hall on Saturday 4th May.

This function began with some free light refreshments for all new members. Fr Brady PP Crosserlough then welcomed all new members and presented with special prayer cards. Everyone recited the Juvenile prayer and were encouraged to keep their pledge as promised, with the help of the Sacred Heart.

Shane Kitson then provided a few encouraging words to those present, followed byy a special guest speaker, Su-Zann Scott. Su-Zann a pioneer from the Loup Centre, spoke about her beginnings in the pioneers, and her experience of keeping her pledge as a young pioneer. She encouraged all present to keep their pledges and part-take in all activities run by the PTAA. She explained how through the seminars, readoiri, quizzes and sports she made life long friendships.

The evening was completed with a disco provided by DJ Ali and a Mass in Crosserlough Chapel.
An enjoyable day was had by all!

Thanks to the East Cavan Region committee for organising such an event.
